A shortage of skilled workers within the manufacturing and engineering sector - commonly referred to as the “skills gap” - has been a longstanding problem for British industry.

Alongside this, the predicted impact of the Covid-19 pandemic upon British unemployment rates has been well-reported as a major challenge on the immediate horizon.

Made in Group, in an effort to inspire manufacturing as an “Industry of Choice” and also to support UK industry in growing alongside a new generation of skilled workers, have launched the Made Futures project.

Made Futures is a brand new website and Jobs Board, exclusively for UK manufacturers, to recruit skilled employees and inspire the next generation with content regarding what it’s like to work within their particular subsector.

To celebrate and promote this brand new piece of technology, Made in Group are also hosting a Virtual Careers Week, under the same name of Made Futures. All Silver and Gold members of Made in Group have been invited to attend and exhibit for FREE under this initiative.

Job seekers, students and potential employees can register to attend Made Futures, in which they’ll be able to browse the stands of all exhibitors and find out more information about potential industry’s and career paths. Following on from the one-week event being held on 22nd-26th March, Attendees will then be able to use this account for the foreseeable future to apply for job vacancies.

Using state of the art technology, Made Futures attendees will be able to register their “Skills” as part of their digital portfolio and upload their CV; which can then be matched up with the listed “Skills” of vacancies posted by Made in Group members.

Ultimately, Made in Group aim to promote manufacturing as a career choice and to help people get into work. This groundbreaking event will include keynote speeches from industry leaders, alongside roundtable discussions in which experts will be exploring important topics, such as "Digital Competencies", "Opportunities for Generation X", "The Future of Work in Manufacturing" and "Student & Graduate Employability".

Featuring companies in both The Midlands and Yorkshire regions, Made in Group have given their membership the opportunity to support British industry by promoting a new potential career path to an audience of students and young job seekers who may never have considered a career in their particular sub-sector. Laying down the challenge one step further, Made in Group have issued a #1KJobsChallenge - aiming to create 1,000 new jobs through the Made Futures project.
