As part of a Virtual Breakfast Morning held on Wednesday 10th May 2023 for members of Made in Group, three business leaders within UK industry shared their inspiring stories with attendees.

Virtual Breakfast Mornings are networking and best practice sharing events, exclusively for members of Made in the Midlands and Made in Yorkshire. Attendees have the chance to learn best practice from 3 hosting speakers, followed by a 30-minute round table discussion on relevant topics.

The speakers for this event were 3 business leaders at leading firms: Andrew Charlesworth (Business Development Manager at the Manufacturing Technology Centre [MTC]), Seamus Bourke (Business Development Manager at Frost Electroplating), Oliver Pogmore (Head of Business Development at FourJaw).

Andrew Charlesworth first discussed Addressing Skills Challenges with attendees. Only 45% of companies with skills challenges address these through training and apprenticeships, however, 50% of companies face recruitment difficulties. Therefore, Andrew touched on what organisations such as the MTC are doing to train the manufacturers and engineers of the future,

Secondly, Seamus Bourke gave a talk on Sustainable Manufacturing. As the largest silver plating company in the UK, Seamus took listeners through how Frost achieved rinse water savings with a 3 way flow rinsing chemical bath. The latest process has allowed the company to reduce water consumption and recycle precious metals such as silver and gold. He also touched on the company’s latest plans to "go greener".

Last but not least, Oliver Pogmore spoke about Industry 4.0 with members. FourJaw is the UK’s fastest-growing productivity tracking platform, having spun out of the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre a couple of years ago. The business now serve 80+ customers and provide fundamental business data on when manufacturing machines are running, not running, and why. During the talk, Oliver gave some real-life examples of just how this Industry 4.0 tool is best used and how manufacturers have benefited from the technology.

You can find all of the talks below and discover a wide array of stories of success, innovative best practice and more by visiting Made U. Made U - short for Made University - is your home for best practice talks from the manufacturing community and expert masterclasses regarding a variety of modern skills.
