The Made Equal campaign had a successful re-launch at Aluna Bar Birmingham today, with 30 members from the Midlands region gathering to network, discuss and explore the topic of Diversity and Inclusion in the workplace.
The event, which is the first since the campaign has rebranded from ‘The Inclusivity Campaign’ will be a quarterly, cross-region event, with the next event being held by Made in Yorkshire and will discuss a range of topics in relation to both inclusivity and diversity.
At the event, members arrived at midday to a drinks reception where they could enjoy the custom made Pornstar martini spritzer, before networking. From 1 pm, members sat down for a shared lunch, before hearing our very own Iwona Sobolewska talked about the book, Thanks for the Feedback, which members were able to take a copy home with them.
But what did our members think?
Wayne Bagnall, Chief Executive Officer at SCHMOLZ + BICKENBACH (UK) Ltd
"Inclusivity and Diversity are not only important topics for UK manufacturing but is something I’m personally passionate about too. Seeing and meeting so many like-minded people in the same room was a great experience.
Together we can hopefully influence more and more people to get involved in this project and help to implement the changes in UK manufacturing to combat the skills gap.”
James Worthington, Managing Director at MyWorkwear
"I found the Made Equal event to be highly informative, whilst in a relaxed atmosphere.
It gave me a real insight into the benefits of having an inclusive and diverse workforce & how having a variety of different views and perspectives, allows us to find more creative solutions for running our business.”
Matthew Marks, Compliance and Sustainability Manager at The Alternative Pallet
"The Made Equal Launch was my first MIM event, and it was brilliant. I was instantly made welcome, and it was really refreshing to be at an event with such like-minded people.
Everyone attending should feel honoured to be at such a pivotal event for manufacturing in the Midlands. I look forward to seeing what changes Made Equal brings and also attend other MIM networking events."
Emma Dolby, Wesbite & Marketing Manager at Direct Air
"It was an honour to be invited to attend the Made Equal Launch last week and begin the next stage for our inclusivity journey. Since working with Made in the Midlands on the previous inclusivity campaign we’re preparing to host our first health and wellbeing week in 2020, so this relaunch came at the perfect time.
We are a SME so sometimes it can be difficult to find the time and resource to focus on everything we want to accomplish at once, but attending the Made Equal events and speaking to people in similar positions and journeys make us realise that even the smallest change is actually an achievement we should be proud of. But we want to continue our development as an inclusive business, and I believe these events will be vital to that. And I can’t wait to get stuck into the book provided, it sounds fascinating!"
